Swim lessons in New York City for all ages & all abilities.

Hi! We’re Melody and Alex, co-founders & lead instructors of SwimCity Aquatics. We are a husband-and-wife duo, and after leaving our day jobs in 2022, we have turned our passion into our life’s work. We are teachers first and swimmers second, but above all else? We love the water. Between the two of us, we have over 2 decades of aquatics experience, in addition to expertise in childhood education. We are here to grow and nurture the love of water in all New Yorkers – with safety as our priority.

Coach Melody Tran (she/her)

Brooklyn, NY

Coach Melody Tran was raised in New York and has always been a New Yorker at heart. Her journey took her to Boston for six years, where she earned her undergraduate degree from Boston University, where she started teaching swim lessons, and best of all, where she met her partner, Alex. After moving back to New York, Melody earned her graduate degree (MS.Ed) in childhood education and special education from Hunter College, and taught within adaptive classrooms in the city’s public schools for almost a decade before deciding to bring her passion for both education and aquatics together. Melody’s favorite part of bringing swim instruction to New Yorkers is seeing the confidence grow within each of her swimmers, no matter the age or ability. Melody wants every swimmer to know that while she was labeled a “late” swimmer – that there is actually no such thing as a “late” swimmer. Melody does what she loves and she loves what she does – and that will never change.

Coach Alex Collicott

Coach Alex Collicott (he/him)

Brooklyn, NY

As a child, Coach Alex Collicott learned to swim in cold lakes (and warm pools!) throughout the Pacific Northwest. While his hometown of Seattle may be known for gloomy weather, Alex has never even once let a little rain ruin his day. His enthusiasm and passion always shines through, as bright as the sun, especially when he’s in the pool. Alex attended Boston University, where he received his undergraduate degree from the College of Communication, with a concentration in advertising and psychology. Much more important than the degree though, was his placement into the freshman dorms at Warren Towers, where he would soon meet his future wife, living just 3 floors below. Alex’s love for the water, much like his love and admiration for his amazing partner Melody, has never faded since his childhood. Alex swears that working with swimmers gives him extra energy, and keeps him young at heart.
